SOME DEHUMIDIFIER TIPS:
How Do you Know If you need a dehumidifier?
Remember your Danby dehumidifier is made to remove excess moisture from the air. Some common indicators that would suggest that you may need a dehumidifier could be:
* 1. You may have damp stains on your walls or ceilings
* 2. You would have a stuffy feeling in the room
* 3. You may have rotting woo
* 4. There can be condensation on your windows
* 5. You can have musty smells
* 6. If you have allergies (maybe the air in your home is too
moist...and if so moisture will encourage the growth of mold and bacteria, which can irritate allergies.)
What should I look for in dehumidifier?
There are also a few things you want to look for in a dehumidifier. Look for an energy star product. This means a product that meets the strict energy efficiency guidelines that are set out by the US Environmental Protection Agency & US Department of Energy.
ENERGY STAR models, like Danby, have a much more efficient compressors, refrigeration coils and fans than non-energy star models models, which means they use less energy to remove moisture. The important things is that energy star models removes the same amount of moisture as a normal standard unit, but uses up to 20%less energy.
Look at capacity!
Dehumidifier capacity is normally measured in pints per 24 hours and is determined by two factors: the size of the space that needs to be dehumidified and the conditions that exist in the space before dehumidification.
The options of water removal.
Lots of dehumidifiers will use a removable bucket. There will be blinking warning lights or other types of indicator lights that will indicate that the bucket is full. If you can't empty the dehumidifier then normally an auto-shut off will normally kick in.
Also, most dehumidifiers come with fittings that would allow you to hook a hose directly to the bucket, which can then be placed into a floor drain or sump pump, thus negating the need to empty it.
Learn about placement
Firstly, look for a top mounted discharge in a dehumidifier. This means that they can be placed against walls. If you do not have top-mounted discharge, then do not place the dehumidifier near walls or furniture. You need to ensure that so air can circulate freely around the unit.
Also, while the unit is running, close all doors and windows to ensure efficient dehumidifying. Make sure that you place the dehumidifier away from dirt and dust. These can clog up the dehumidifier grills and coils. Also, and obviously, never set up your water disposal close to electrical circuits or devices and always make sure that the dehumidifier is connected to a properly grounded outlet.
Watch the Operating Temperature
If you are trying to dehumidify a space that is less than 65 degrees (F), you may want to consider purchasing a dehumidifier that is made for use at lower temperatures. The reason is that frost can form on the coils if the temperature falls below 65 degrees.
This may negatively affect the performance of the product by causing the compressor recycle without removing moisture. If your dehumidifier does this, the dehumidifier should be switched off and defrost before it is turned back on.
